 ⏵ arrival ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Arrival goes as expected - characters awaken on hospital beds and are offered an explanation of their situation: that they have arrived in the city of Etraya, and they are their world's only hope. They are welcome to wander the hospital if they would like to - the upper floors are mostly empty, full of pristine hallways and numerous rooms filled with supplies, cots, and things one would expect from a relatively average 21st-century hospital. In the hospital's lobby are several party tables set out with miscellaneous baked goods: croissants, cookies, breads, cake slices, as well as tea and coffee to accompany them - or hot chocolate, for those who are opposed to the other offerings. Outside the hospital, the last remnants of snow are melting in the sunlight as the weather begins to warm up. It's still chilly enough one might want to put on a coat, but not so cold a jacket is necessary for wandering around without freezing off one's fingers. We hope you enjoy your stay.  ⏵ heroes return ⏴ As the Quantum Rail train glides to a halt, returning passengers step out onto familiar ground - the train station, right where they had initially begun their mission. When exiting the station, their earpieces vibrate, indicating the automatic download of a detailed map which highlights key locations, transit paths, and notable landmarks. As Aurora promised, she had been working on a few renovations around Etraya! A sleek trolley system now winds through Etraya, following clearly marked pathways through the city bubble to make travel across the city smoother. However, the trolley only moves one way, eternally following the loop Aurora has set it on. And because of this, it takes six hours to complete it's loop all the way around. Don't miss your stop! Pets and animals have been returned to their usual preferred areas, some awaiting the arrival of their owners, and others keeping to themselves in the forested areas throughout Etraya. Beyond the small upgrades, things seem relatively unchanged - until one familiar sign catches the eye. One marked by four vertical lines, methodically crossed out one by one: the final slash has now been drawn through. The tally is complete. What it indicates has yet to be made clear, but it has to mean something, right? No one would go through the effort of making an ominous-sounding sign without following through.  ⏵ love in the air ⏴ This Valentines Day, Aurora and the companion bots have opted to try something a little different: they have scattered mystery valentines across the city. Hidden within mailboxes, tucked into cafe menus, slipped under doors, on the outside of high windows for those wall-crawlers to spot. There are countless of these little slips of papers, strewn throughout the city. And within each valentine, is a challenge or gesture to complete. Please feel free to make these up yourselves as long as they fit in with the theme! Some examples include:
While not mandatory, completing five tasks will earn an individual an additional ten points to use towards anything they would like! Each little Valentine is signed "Your Secret Admirer. ♡", and some of them may even be addressed to specific individuals. Don't be surprised, Eddie, if you see one or two that are specifically addressed to you lurking around your collection of chicken friends! And while most of these are harmless, some of the valentines cards come with effects for those who come into contact with the paper. Perhaps they thought it was a piece of garbage, or were just kicking it out of the way rather than intending on taking part. It doesn't matter! They get to join in on the fun, too. Heart Eyes - your pupils literally turn into hearts for a few hours, making it hard to focus on anything other than things (or people) you find attractive. Love-Struck Stammer - You can only speak in poetic compliments or romantic declarations, regardless of whom you're speaking to. Chocolate Bliss - Everything feels good. Simple. Easy. As if there's nothing in the world to concern yourself with. You feel happy, without any concerns or worry. Rose-Tinted Vision - everything looks soft and romantic, as if you're in a romance novel. You know the ones. Magnetic Attraction - regardless of what you had been doing, you suddenly find yourself unable to leave the side of the person closest to you. Had you been eating chocolates while walking down the street? Well, have fun getting stuck to the guy who'd been out for a jog! Serenade Syndrome - you find it impossible to resist the urge to sing your words, turning all conversations into love ballads. Heartstrings - A thread appears, connecting you to someone close by who you share many similarities too. Perhaps you had never met this person before, but the threads tied around your pinky fingers that refuse to let go until you allow yourself to open up to them clearly means you should be a little more familiar with them. Love is in the air—or maybe just a bit of well-intended chaos! 💕 Welcome back from the mission, and welcome to Etraya for our newcomers! We've tried to keep this log simple for an easy introduction, as well as some downtime for our mission-goers who worked hard to solve the Quantum Rail mystery. There is something else going on, but. . . well, no one seems to know what! The computer that had been on the lower floor of the hospital is now missing, and Aurora may seem a little flustered as she flits around Etraya, in search of something. [ He would have left matters like that but pauses when she seems worried about him. One shoulder lowers more than the other, his face scrunches up in a brief moment of unhappiness. However, his expression smooths out as she has a point.
His life is precious, even if he thought otherwise. He has been living recklessly because he already died once, but having experienced death, he doesn't want to any time soon. However - however - however - ]
How I'm living is no different than how I've lived. [ His shoulders bounce. ] If I don't make these investments, I won't be able to move forward with what I want to do.

There's some awful people here and if you get involved with them...who's to say they'll keep it at just you? And not include me or Heather? [Maria wasn't positive that Chrollo would be the one to do this, the type, but well she didn't know he wasn't either. there were plenty of different kinds of people here.]
You can't keep dying, bestie. And well, if either she or I die next then what? Are your risks really going to matter if Heather's memories are taken from her? If mine are? Say what you want but the people I choose to associate with are trying to be good people. Are yours? [Maria couldn't say she was the best judge of character, her experience was limited, but she did have intuition. none of her acquaintances would want to hurt Heather at the very least.
she offers a smile.] How you lived back in our world doesn't matter in a world like this, does it? Doesn't for me. I'm not trying to sleep with a guy for a chance not to disappear.

[ He leans back in his chair, waving his hand to indicate she can keep going. ]
Because I do what you two don't. [ Flicking his index finger in her direction then gesturing out toward "Heather's", he chimes: ] I generally don't talk about anyone I talk to or have association with, Maria. [ A beat. ] Unless I'm cornered by people who know I know you two.
[ Because there's nothing he can do in that situation; if he lies, that individual can just go to Maria and Heather for verification if they do or don't know him. He scratches his eyebrow and muses for a second: ] I'm to say that it wouldn't spill onto you two, because of my personality. The main reason to torture or kill someone unrelated is to hurt the person their connected to, Maria.
[ He dips his head. ] My personality keeps you two safe. No one would think I care that deeply about you save Chrollo and, well, he doesn't care that much about either one of you or me. [ He opens his hands. ] He's a man of religion as I am.
And he actually has faith. [ A sticking point to a previous talk they had months and months ago about how irritating he finds Claudia's "faith." ] He's not a good person, but he can kill me in seconds. However, I can't do anything to him. That's your guarantee, as well. The fact I'm weaker than the people around me is what keeps me safe.
[ His head tips back as he laughs - no sound comes out, however. ] I am living the same life I lead back then. Nothing's changed. [ Only things are changing for him, inside of him; he just is unwilling to acknowledge it. ] Anyway, you'll be safe. If you're concerned... I told Chrollo one thing.
I'm weaker than he is but I can be more irritating than anyone else in scheming against someone's downfall. [ His head finally drops down. ] And I have oodles of time here to do it. So, bestie, don't worry. I have faith enough for both of us.

Nuh uh. Chrollo knew about Heather and you relied on him. [and that's the sticking point to this.] You trusted someone like him to help protect Heather and I.
[she smiles at him.] That's a bit risky even for you. I share things with people who I know will help me because they're good people. Harold Finch, he helped Heather and I because he's a good person. Gorgug is helping me now because he's good. You share things with someone like him because, what, you like him? [Vincent, you may just be able to like people. them's the breaks.]

[ A longer sigh later. ] Chrollo came to me later already knowing I knew her and wanted to ask more questions. [ That's his sticking point! ] Anyway, I knew he would look after Heather, at least, and tried to force his hand to look after you, as well. However, I didn't quite understand how he works.
[ He grimaces before setting his hand against his chest. ] That was my mistake, but he would look after Heather so long as it wouldn't cost him his life. He likes her even if she doesn't like him. [ Interlacing his fingers, he leans forward: ] It's better that terrible men like Chrollo and me want her safe than not.
Granted, I want her alive and safe. Chrollo just wants her safe. [ Why is he defending the Spider? He wonders. He decides he isn't defending the man; he's defending his decision to rely on him. ] But... we both agree she deserves better than us. [ A beat. ] You, also, deserve better than me.
[ Another beat and with some cheer: ] But unfortunately, these are the breaks.

After you died, it was Harold Finch and John Reese who helped Heather and me. People we had made "investments" with. People we trusted. Not Chrollo. So take note of that, bestie. [it had not been Vincent's sway that had kept them safe after he was gone. it had been people that Heather and Maria had built relationships with. that they had gotten to know.
maybe she was a little bothered that Vincent wrote off the friendships they had created. people Maria trusted.
but as she's always told people, it's best to be helpful to Vincent. best to do that to get along with him and like she told both Vincent and Chrollo, you got more flies with honey. and what was Vincent if not a bothersome insect? one who buzzed around and fed off what he could. she knew what Vincent was.]

He already cares about her. There's not much else that can be done.
[ His expression twists in irritation. If it had ended with that comment, he may have become vitriolic at the tone. It's the same part of him that would lash out at a young girl who is already experiencing the horrors of his town; to have her question everything that she's been doing up to that point to survive.
However, the last part curves his response. His expression settles as he breathes out a small sigh. He gives a small wave of his hand, dismissing what's been said - or rather dismissing what would cause a negative response from him. ]
Fine, fine. Do what you will, and I'll do what I will. That's fine, isn't it?

I wouldn't want you dead either, Vincent. I mean, again, anyway. [she tries to joke, thinking he would appreciate that. he doesn't like sentimentality.] So we'll do what we will. And I'll also look out for you in my own way.
[she did ask people to help him and that was for his sake as well as their sake. to keep him safe.]

[ He does appreciate the joke. Sentimentality isn't something he appreciates. At least, not unless he could use it. To manipulate Maria would be an affront against God.
Vincent likes to constantly say he isn't a lunatic like Claudia. He isn't going to act against God's will for some grand mercy and benevolence to everyone else. If he's going to be a blasphemer, it's because he wants something for himself. At least, he can be that honest about it. ]
I appreciate that, I suppose. [ A small hum. ] I'll say it right now - I don't intend to treat you like the other people here. As a creation of God, I think I should be respectful and honest. [ His mouth twists into a brief smile. ]
Felt I should say that much since I worry that how I'll act in the future may come off as manipulative and scheming. [ A longer hum as he shrugs his shoulders. ] But I'll always be forthright with you, Maria. It's the least I can do, don't you think?

Thank you, Vincent. I don't consider myself the same way. It doesn't seem anything that glorious. [she gives him a humorless smile.] I mean, my end goal was nothing all that respectful.
But I see your point. All my secrets are out. I really have nothing else. I promise that if something does happen, or I discover something, then I'll tell you.
[Vincent was scummy but he was one of the people she knew she could probably tell anything to at this point. and considering he did know the workings of what happened in Silent Hill, he probably was best to tell.

Oh. The cough. I probably have the same sickness Mary had. I found someone who knew enough healing to put it on hold but I guess if you know of some ritual to stop that then that would be good. Food for thought.

[ He flicks his wrist out to hold his hand out in her direction. However, he did briefly forget that point as his irritation at the possibility of being looked down on got the better of him.
Closing his eyes, he tilts his head and hand to indicate that he accepts that answer. He'll wait for her to give him any sort of information that she might have in the future.
However, when she hesitates, he opens one eye.
Setting his hands back down on the table, he rests one over the other. His eyes roll up toward the ceiling and around to the corner of the room - actively recalling the cough she had before.
Leaning forward, he listens more to what she has to say about it. He hums thoughtfully as his eyes glaze over in thought. It seems like Echo was able to sever some of the connection that Maria has with Silent Hill but not completely cut ties with her origins. ]
Well -- [ His eyebrows bounce upward. ] -- yes. I do know of something that may help. The covenant keeps all members of the Order safe. The covenant is what holds us to Her.
[ He flicks his index finger upward. ]
Illness shall not take us. Death will come only by Her will. Or else the cycle of rebirth and penance will hold a person to life.
[ However, he got sick while here so he can't say that God is on his side at the moment. But he already knows the reason that may be; he didn't do enough to stop Claudia. But in this, he might be able to earn some favor from across universes and worlds. ]
Echo is similar, don't you think? [ Heh. Funny stuff - Echo is an echo of his God. ] Anyway, you could always join the Order and see if that solves your sickness. You'd be more Hers rather than created for him. [ A soft noise. ] Well, that is one option I thought immediately, anyway.

Vincent ends up having his own say about it as well after all.
his solution makes her sigh inwardly, certainly not outwardly. she will not upset Vincnt more than she has to. that seems like a terrible idea. they need to get along while they are here. besides, she does want to get along with him.]
Being what I am, aren't I technically part of the Order? [she doesn't think so but she can only reject joining the religion so many times before he starts to get tired of it.]

They witnessed the glory of God and yet unable to accept it. Instead, they came up with deranged stories about the town and the blessings that they were given. He would have a lot of words about them, but that would digress and derail what they're talking about presently. ]

[Maria has no idea if he's buying this act but you know what? it's fine. he probably doesn't want them to stop getting along either.

[ His shoulders lift and lower as he decides to leave the matter at that (surprisingly?). Well, he feels like he let enough people sit and soak in the idea of who he is as a person that he can propose joining the Order to them. Either out of interest or something to soothe their souls, he thinks that it would be a good idea to start converting others.
He does think making a post would be easier, but for a lot of reasons, he thinks just reaching out to the people is best. Besides, what will he do if Heather finds out and get mad about it? Best to have things established and claim ignorance than have her stop him right at the get go, right? Right.
Vincent likes to think he's playing 4D-chess when he's probably closer to playing Connect-Four at times. ]
I appreciate that, Maria. Although, I think the make-up is a waste of time. [ But he does give her a small wave. ]
