[Jason sometimes goes scavenging for motorcycle parts at the junkyard. Normally he goes about it alone so he's surprised when he sees the older Bruce searching for something. Even more surprising is the large dane mix he sees by his side. Jason can't help but grin]

I knew you still have a heart somewhere.

[ As if on cue, Ace gets to his feet, puts himself between Jason and Bruce. There's no growling, he's just watching. ]

I don't know what you're talking about.

[ A heart? Him? Absolutely not. Don't go spreading that vile rumor around. ]

Sure. A random dog just happened to find you here and has already warmed up to you.

[Jason's respectfully keeping his distance. No need to agitate Ace already]

No, he's my dog.

[ He pets Ace's head and that seems to relax him. Bruce tugs the bag off his shoulder and holds it out to Jason. ]

Carry this for me. He won't bite you.

[Jason takes the bag]

New project for you?

[He's not going to look inside for now but he does note how it feels]

I'm going to make batarangs.

[ Probably an odd thing to hear from the old man. ]

For defense.

[Jason is actually surprised by that. He can understand the reasoning behind Bruce making more batarangs though. The man is infamous for always having contingencies]

Wait, so you're gonna drop by then?

[He knows the older Bruce has pointedly been trying to avoid the manor but it would be the best place to make more batarangs]

[ He's not surprised by the question. He'd ventured close enough once to get a look at it, but had not set foot on the property since he came to Etraya. There were a multitude of reasons, all of them personal. None of them he's willing to share. He pets Ace's head instead. ]

You got a different workshop then?

[ Oh yeah, Jason's not been to his apartment. The thing's a Batcave in miniature. ]

Something like that. I've made myself at home here.

[What's that? A Bat-Challenge has appeared? Jason grins]

Good to know. And you got company too now.

[ don't you dare, Jason. Don't you dare. ]

This isn't an invitation.

[ That was a little rude. ]

Who said anything about me? I was talking about you having Ace around.

[Jason’s still grinning though. He invites himself thank you very much]

[ Bruce knows the kids, even if he doesn't know Jason that well. Bruce hasn't had the opportunity to push them all away and set fire to the bridge between them. ]

But yes, it's good to have him back.

[Jason offers a hand for Ace to sniff. Let's see how friendly this dog is]

Damian will be happy too.

[ Ace is tense, but doesn't growl and only relaxes after he gets a whiff of Jason's scent. ]

Does he like dogs?

Yup. He's a big animal lover. He'll like Ace.

[If anything, the danger is Damian deciding to adopt him under Bruce's nose...]

[ Bruce is quiet for a moment. ]

I found him in Crime Alley. He escaped a dog fighting ring.

[ All that to say this: ]

He doesn't trust easily.

[Jason doesn't need to ask why Bruce was in Crime Alley. He has no doubts about why he was there]

Did it take long for him to trust you?

No. He assisted with a mugger.

[ They've been pretty much inseparable ever since. ]

[Jason can't help but smile at that]

A very good boy indeed.

[ The best boy. But that's enough about him. He wants to talk about you, now, Jason. ]

What have you been doing?

Nothing much. Just happy to finally have some privacy again.

[Even by Bat standards, the constant surveillance in Aphaia was exhausting]

Did you meet a couple of the new arrivals yet?

[Two new Gothamites in particular...]

I spoke with Dr. Crane briefly while we were in Aphaia. Was there someone else?

[ Bruce gives Jason a curious look. It's too much to hope for that it might have been Terry. So Bruce keeps his expectations low. ]

Yeah, me. Kind of. There's a younger, angrier me walking around too.
